Tom to play Hank Williams in biopic

According to The Seattle Times, Tom has signed to play country music legend Hank Williams in the biopic “I Saw the Light”.

We all know that Tom Hiddleston can do no wrong: he’s mastered the action-movie bad-guy thing (“The Avengers,” “Thor”), the period-drama thing (“The Deep Blue Sea”), the vampire thing (“Only Lovers Left Alive”), the literary-movie character thing (“Midnight in Paris”), and numerous other roles; plus, he’s pretty cute with little kids. But he’s found a new challenge: He’s signed to play country music legend Hank Williams in the biopic “I Saw the Light” (based on the Williams biography by Colin Escott), and word is that he will do his own singing, warbling Williams hits like “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” and “Hey Good Lookin.’” Williams, born in 1933, found stardom early but his career was brief; troubled by health issues and substance abuse, he died in 1953, aged just 29. The film, to be directed by Marc Abraham (“Flash of Genius”), will begin shooting in Louisiana this fall.

Tom to Model At Charity Runway Show

The Avengers co-stars Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston will show off their modeling skills when they walk the runway at a charity fashion show in London next month (June 14, 2014).

Jackson is set to host The One For The Boys Fashion Ball at the city’s Natural History Museum to raise money for a male cancer charity, and he will also model designer clothing along with Hiddleston, Simon Pegg, funnyman David Walliams, and Welsh actor Luke Evans.

Jackson, who is a spokesman for the One For The Boys charity, says, “The One For The Boys Fashion Ball is a ‘Blue Steel’ inspired fashion moment. Myself, campaign ambassadors, supporters and nominated individuals will take to the catwalk, modeling fashions donated by top designers to raise awareness of male cancers within the fashion world”.

The gala, which also features a fundraising silent auction, takes place on 15 June (14).

Tom talks to ELLE about Coriolanus

In a new production of Shakespeare’s tragedy, Corionalus, directed by Josie Rourke, for the Donmar Warhouse, ELLE favourite Tom Hiddleston plays Caius Marcius Coriolanus. Here, he shares his insight into the play:

‘Coriolanus is really interesting because the arch is fully tragic. The character’s name is Caius Marcius and he is an extraordinary soldier. He is the guy that you want on your team. He is just a righteous badass. He exists and excels in a space where things are very black and white.

‘There’s a war against a mortal enemy and he takes a town called Coriolies single-handed. He’s not a skilled politician but he gives a big, rousing speech and the gate to the town opens and he says, ‘now put your shields before your hearts and fight with hearts more proof than shields’. And runs in and the gates close behind him and his entire army thinks, we’ve just lost our best man. He’s locked in this enemy town, he’s gone. What are we going to do? Half an hour later he’s on the battlements covered in blood, screaming hell fury and he’s taken the town single-handed.

‘The town’s name is Corialies. At the end of the battle the army are so proud of him. He won’t take any prizes so instead they call him Marcius Corialanus as he took Corialies on his own.

‘He has this backbone and he’s unflinching and he does not dilute his integrity at all to the point of being incredibly proud and some might say selfish. Basically his integrity and his virtue are his downfall. And in terms of the arch of a tragic hero it’s perfect. Amazing, amazing. Take a town, war hero, rebel, outcast, enemy – dead.’

Confirmed: Loki will not appear in ‘The Avengers 2’

There has been a lot of speculation as to whether or not Loki will appear in ‘The Avengers 2’ and Joss Whedon confirmed today during a podcast with Empire that Loki will not appear in the sequel. Here’s what he had to say:

“Everyone is going to be looking for the Loki-Hulk smash moment and you’ll be looking for ‘quim’. First of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, Loki’s not there to say those terrible things. Although I do think we should bring the word back, not as an insult, it’s just a nice word.”

Tom Hiddleston to cameo in “The Muppets… Again!”

Article courtesy Indiewire: You know you’ve made it when they offer you a “Muppets” cameo. From John Cleese to John Krasinski; Tina Fey to Ty Burrell, Kermit’s is a team worth pitching for. And the latest to get the Henson seal of approval is Tom Hiddleston, who eagle-eyed fans at the Muppets Henson blog (via Comic Book Movie) have spotted. The actor has joined the cast of the lazily-titled “The Muppets… Again!” as ‘The Great Escapo.’

Included in the article are Tom comments about “The Avengers” sequel when he was interviewed at BBC Radio 1: “I know that it’s happening, but I don’t know what happens in it,” adding, “Everyone at Marvel has just given Joss [Whedon] some space, some time to write it.” On reprising his role as the supervillain Loki, he remarked that there had been no indication that he should “clear his schedule,” but that none of the cast had as yet been officially signed for the 2015 follow-up.
